Special Report: (Global Re) How Relevant Is The Underwriting Cycle?

Market observers have long pondered the insurance cycle. Many reinsurers continue to execute on cycle management strategies and believe the 12 hourly stages depicted in Paul Ingrey’s well-known “Insurance Clock” are still intact. However, a debate worth having regards the clock hands’ current positioning and whether the perceived time between some stages in the underwriting cycle has grown distorted or perhaps more compressed. Why does the insurance cycle exist, or even business cycles in general, for that matter?
