Special Report: Life/Health Sector Rating Upgrades Outpace Downgrades in 2017

A.M. Best has reviewed its issuer credit ratings (ICRs) on the domestic life/health carriers through year-end 2017 and found that, for the life/health sector overall, rating upgrades outpaced downgrades through year-end 2017, versus the prior year when downgrades outpaced upgrades. In addition, the percentage of rating affirmations declined, while the number of ratings under review increased, from 2016 (Exhibits 1a and 1b).
