Group Disability writers face new challenges, even as the competitive environment has improved, according to the commentary recently released by A.M. Best Co.

The increasing likelihood that the U.S. economy is already in a recession, combined with the unknown total impact of the tragic events of Sept. 11, probably will have negative effects on disability writers' bottom lines, at least for the next year. The magnitude of the impact is not easily quantified, however, and A.M. Best has a cautious to negative outlook on the group disability business in general, due to the competitive environment and the slowing economy.

The commentary can be accessed free at the A.M. Best Health Care Center at Group Disability Commentary.
