OLDWICK - MAY 15, 2015 11:36 AM (EDT)
In this episode of A.M.BestTV from the recent Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions Conference, held by Asociación Mexicana de Instituciones de Seguros (AMIS) in Mexico City, insurers state that the Mexican insurance industry is expected to surge as insurance penetration levels rise to those found in comparable markets. Click on http://www.ambest.com/v.asp?v=amis515 to view the video program.

Miguel Sierra, director general at Pan American Life Insurance Mexico, discusses how the low penetration rate provides a tremendous opportunity for insurers. "With only 2% of GDP, Mexico could go up to as much as 4% or 5% and with the possibility of achieving that level of GDP, I am extremely optimistic."

Jose Camarena, chief agency officer at Seguros Monterey New York Life Insurance Company, believes Mexico can achieve the same level of penetration that other countries presently have. "The penetration in Mexico is only half of what is in countries like India, Argentina and Chile. That being the case, the opportunity that exists here to expand, especially in life and accident/health is high," he said.

Other people who appear in this episode include:

  • Roberto Gonzalez, director general at Odontoprev Seguros Dentalas;

  • Omar Viveros, health and group benefits leader at Towers Watson; and

  • Alejandro Padilla, head of reinsurance Latin America North en Swiss Reinsurance Group.
