Herve Balzano, head of employee benefits at AXA US, believes his firm is in a unique position by widening its focus to include U.S. employee benefits. "This market is terribly underserved and this makes it possible for AXA to gain ground in it, as this market is evolving," said Balzano.

A.M. Best Senior Financial Analyst Kate Steffanelli said that there's "a wonderful opportunity here, since there is a lot of emphasis on the employee benefits market. This is due to health care reform, its impact on the insurance market and the increasing focus on consumer-driven health care." A.M. Best Senior Financial Analyst Michael Adams added, "this is a high profit business; in fact, it is one of the highest profit businesses in the industry."
