AM Best Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Matthew C. Mosher will present on the increasing risks insurance companies are facing from wildfires as part of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ (NAIC) Spring 2019 National Meeting, which will take place in Orlando, FL.
Mosher’s presentation, “AM Best Comments on Wildfire Risk,” will focus largely on how catastrophe analysis is incorporated in AM Best’s rating analysis, along with the challenges rating analysts face in assessing wildfire risk and how they are addressing these challenges in their interactions with rated companies. Mosher also will give an overview of how recent U.S. wildfire activity has impacted the property/casualty industry. The presentation will be delivered as part of the NAIC’s regularly scheduled meetings in an open session to the catastrophe risk subgroup of the Property and Casualty Risk-Based Capital Working Group at 5:00 pm EDT on April 5, 2019, at the JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes. The national meeting gets under way the following day and runs through April 9.
The NAIC holds three national meetings a year, and are attended by state regulators and their staff, NAIC employees and insurance industry representatives. Various committees, task forces and working groups address model laws, guidelines and other issues during each event.
