FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OLDWICK - JANUARY 05, 2018 08:11 AM (EST)
A.M. Best is offering a free, shareable digital edition of the January 2018 issue of Best’s Review magazine. This issue focuses on the changing dynamics of distribution in the insurance marketplace, as insurers implement innovative technology to reach customers directly and reduce costs. As a result, agents and brokers’ roles are being redefined, as they adapt to the new distribution landscape. Agencies and brokerages are transforming as well, with mergers and acquisitions making some of the largest brokerage houses even larger. Independent agencies are increasing their negotiating leverage, as well as gaining technology, data management and other resources, by joining agency networks.

“Insurers, agents and brokers work together to help consumers manage their risks and buy appropriate insurance coverages,” said Patricia Vowinkel, executive editor, Best’s Review. “New technology and distribution platforms, however, are a variable that could begin to shift the balance of power. For many insurers, it’s not just a matter of seeking to reduce the cost of distribution, but also reaching customers through as many channels as possible.”

Other resources in this issue include:

  • Top Audit and Actuarial Firms: Listings based on 2016 loss reserves as received by A.M. Best; and

  • 2018 Trade Shows/Conferences: Descriptions, locations, dates and venues for the industry’s top events in 2018, segregated by market.
