W. R. Berkley Names Senior Vice President

GREENWICH, Conn. //BestWire// - W.R. Berkley Corp. said it has made John K. Goldwater senior vice president, making him responsible for overseeing certain operating units of the company.

With more than 40 years of experience in commercial property/casualty insurance, Goldwater was president of BerkleyNet Underwriters since its inception in 2006. BerkleyNet is an operating unit of W.R. Berkley that uses technology, underwriting and claims expertise to deliver workers' compensation solutions to small and midsized companies.

James B. Gilbert will take Goldwater's place as the new president of BerkleyNet.

With nearly 25 years of experience in property/casualty insurance, Gilbert was senior vice president of actuarial and operations at BerkleyNet. He also held senior actuarial positions at other workers' comp insurers.

In July, the company launched a specialized unit, Berkley Medical Management Solutions, to provide workers' comp managed-care and cost-containment services for W. R. Berkley Insurance Group (Best's News Service, July 15, 2014).

Among the largest commercial lines writers in the United States, W.R. Berkley operates in three segments of property/casualty insurance: insurance-domestic, insurance-international and reinsurance-global.

During the second quarter of this year, W.R. Berkley saw its net income climb 55.2% to $180 million (Best's News Service, July 28, 2014).

Companies within W.R. Berkley Insurance Group have a current Best's Financial Strength Rating of A+ (Superior).

On the afternoon of Oct. 23, shares of W. R. Berkley Corp. (NYSE: WRB) were $49.67, up 0.81% from the previous close.
