Philly I-Day is the largest networking event in the Philadelphia, PA area for insurance professionals. This year’s event had nearly 900 attendees discussing major challenges the industry is facing, in particular, the talent gap.
“Some people perceive the insurance industry as a dinosaur,” said Roger Fell, managing director, Marsh. “Technology talent would rather go to Google or some Silicon Valley company, than give support to the insurance business. This situation is a real hindrance to the insurance industry progressing forward,” continued Fell.
However, Denise Hunter, vice chair, Insurance Society of Philadelphia, NextGen, sees efforts to recruit millennials by the various outreach programs that the industry is establishing progressing. She also believes the industry is starting to listen and cater to more of millennials’ needs.
