| | Firm Profile | Brunini, Grantham, Grower & Hewes, PLLC, founded over one century ago, today is one of Mississippi’s largest and most respected law firms. We serve primarily business clients, including a number of Fortune 500 companies and other significant Mississippi companies, including the nation’s largest privately held wireless company, Mississippi’s largest health insurer, and one of the state’s largest banks and largest health care systems. Our Firm’s practice is organized into three major areas of concentration: Commercial, Litigation and Regulatory law.
Commercial
Attorneys in our commercial department provide counsel and representation in matters of general corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, public and industrial development financing and tax incentives, securities regulation, banking, real estate transactions, insurance regulation, syndication, estate planning, antitrust, and corporate and personal taxation. In addition, we represent various media clients and clients who face defamation, first amendment issues and other media issues.
Litigation
Our trial attorneys handle a wide range of cases, including those involving complex commercial transactions, mass torts, construction disputes, employment discrimination, products liability, premises liability, insurance defense, insurance coverage, medical malpractice, breach of contract, antitrust, securities fraud, business torts, taxation, white collar crime, and environmental issues. We possess experience and considerable reputation in state and federal trial and appellate courts in Mississippi and elsewhere and have acted as lead counsel in many of Mississippi’s largest and most complex litigation cases.
Regulatory
Brunini’s energy practice dates from the first oil discovery in Mississippi in the 1930's, and today includes every part of the industry, from our representation of producers in the field, to pipeline companies transporting the product, to public utilities distributing the energy to the public, to lignite coal projects to generate electricity. We frequently represent public utilities, including providers of telecommunications services, electricity, and natural gas, as well as other parties, in proceedings before the Mississippi Public Service Commission. Brunini is also distinguished by a formidable and diverse environmental practice, which supports not only our energy clients but our manufacturing clients as well. In the health care arena, we provide comprehensive legal services to entities such as hospitals, nursing homes, physicians groups and other medical care providers. We also represent casinos, casino developers and businesses involved in the gaming industry.
The Brunini Difference
Law firms of comparable size often appear indistinguishable to prospective clients searching for a firm to retain as well as to law students trying to plan their careers. Firm resumés and web sites even look the same. There are many fine firms in Mississippi, and many excellent lawyers. The Brunini Firm not only has excellent lawyers, it also has other attributes that have made it the firm of choice for both sophisticated corporate clients and outstanding young lawyers beginning their careers.
The Brunini Firm prides itself on providing excellent legal services in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The Firm is sensitive to concerns about the high cost of legal services and employs a number of practices to ensure that its clients receive not only excellent service, but excellent value as well. The Firm is committed to a practice of assigning the right lawyer to every matter, the lawyer best able to handle the matter based on his or her background and experience. Continuity is also important to value. The same lawyer works on a matter from beginning to end. Additionally, the Firm is careful to avoid over-staffing. Additional lawyers or paralegals work on a matter only if they are truly needed. And finally, the Firm uses innovative approaches and alternative dispute resolution to try to bring disputes to a prompt, inexpensive resolution. The Firm recognizes that a costly, scorched-earth approach to every dispute is not in the best interest of its clients. As a result of these practices, the Brunini Firm has avoided the complaints about excessive fees that are often levied at other firms.
The Brunini Firm maintains an unswerving devotion to the highest standards of honesty and professionalism. The lawyers of the Brunini Firm believe in uncompromising integrity; their word is their bond. As a result of its commitment to both excellence and integrity, the Firm has an outstanding reputation among the judges and agencies before whom its lawyers practice and among lawyers in other firms with whom the firm works.
The Brunini Firm is loyal to its clients and their interests. And this loyalty has been repaid in kind. Many of the major corporations the Firm represents have been satisfied clients of the Firm for decades. The Brunini Firm is very proud of these enduring relationships.
The Brunini Firm maintains a longstanding commitment to community and professional involvement. Throughout its history, Brunini attorneys have held key positions of leadership and responsibility in civic and professional organizations. The Firm's commitment to civic affairs not only gives its lawyers an opportunity to contribute to their community and profession, it also has significant benefits for the Firm's clients. As a result of their civic involvement, the Firm's attorneys maintain close ties to key leaders in business and government.
The Brunini Firm is an excellent place to work. The Firm is well known for its friendly working atmosphere and the cordial relationships its attorneys have with each other. These traits promote cooperative efforts to solve clients' legal problems and enhance the quality of services the firm provides. The pleasant working environment also permits the Firm to attract and retain very talented lawyers and a support staff that is second to none.
